Holy shit it’s November already! 2024 is careening towards its end, but remain calm, breathe deep and crack a can of FRESH.
NOV is a luscious, zesty little number. No oats, just light lager, white wheat malts and chit wheat delivering a clean patisserie sweetness and a glowing golden haze. The hop bill is a blend of Citra, Strata and Comet.
Citra & Strata are no strangers to FRESH, but this is a debut for Comet, a true American OG released all the way back in 1974! Let’s put that in context. Boogie was big. Kool and the Gang had just released ‘Jungle Boogie’, Eddie Kendricks sang ‘Boogie Down’, and the number one song of the year was Barbara Streisand’s ‘The Way We Were’ (they can’t all be bangers).
Comet hit the scene in its bell bottom jeans, but was eventually forgotten, only to be rediscovered by hop growers in recent years. We picked it up at the US harvest and love its punchy citrus character. In fact, we love Comet so much we’re releasing another Comet brew showcase at the end of the year - but that’s a story for another day. For now, it's back to FRESH...
Crack that can and there’s that instant aromatic punch. It’s like opening a can of pineapple chunks, backed up with white wine gums (apparently they don’t make white wine gums any more, but I bet Kool and the Gang loved them and would have been stinging for a bag of them after recording ‘Jungle Boogie’).
Then take a long sip and count off those flavours - lemon, lime, lychee, gooseberry, white table grapes, tangerine and the lightest hint of camomile, all wrapped up with beautiful bitter sweet balance. In the immortal words of Kool and the Gang, Get down it.
